Private owners can still apply for subsidies for renovations, conversions and certain new buildings until October 31, 2027.
Village development in Seeheim-Jugenheim is entering its final year of funding. Private property owners can apply for subsidies for construction projects in designated funding areas until October 31, 2027. Mayor Birgit Kannegießer encourages residents to take advantage of the free consultation services. She notes that only a few applications have been received so far, particularly from the smaller villages.
Seeheim-Jugenheim has been part of the Hessian village development program since 2020. The program aims to strengthen village centers, preserve existing buildings, and enable modern living spaces. The guiding principle is "inward development before outward development.".
Village development supports renovation and repurposing
Eligible projects include the comprehensive renovation and modernization of residential buildings, as well as the conversion of former agricultural or commercial buildings into living space. Energy efficiency measures, the design of courtyards and open spaces, and certain new constructions, such as replacement buildings, can also be subsidized.
The prerequisite is that the project is located within the designated funding area and fits the character of the respective district. Such areas exist in Jugenheim, Balkhausen, Stettbach, Ober-Beerbach, and Malchen. Seeheim was not included in the current program due to its larger population.
Grants of up to 60,000 euros
The subsidy typically amounts to 35 percent of the net costs, but no more than €45,000 per project. For projects involving individual cultural monuments or former commercial buildings, grants of up to €60,000 are possible.
Since the program began, 22 private renovation, conversion, and new construction projects have been approved in the municipality. Of these, 19 are in Jugenheim, two in Stettbach, and one in Malchen.
Free consultation before submitting an application
Ursula Brechel from the village and regional development department of the Darmstadt-Dieburg district and urban planning consultant Ingo Rohleder offer free and non-binding consultation appointments. These cover design, eligibility for funding, the specific application process, and dealing with historic buildings.
The consultation, which is co-financed by the municipality, is a prerequisite for a funding application.
