On November 7th, Polish organist Krzysztof Ostrowski will improvise on the theme of peace and reconciliation.
Polish concert organist Krzysztof Ostrowski will perform a "Symphony of Reconciliation" on the Winterhalter organ at an organ concert on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 6 p.m. in St. Ludwig's Church in Darmstadt's city center. The event takes place during the closing weekend of the exhibition "Reconciliation for Europe," which commemorates the 1965 letter of reconciliation from Polish bishops.
Organ concert combines German and Polish music
Krzysztof Ostrowski is active throughout Europe as a concert organist and improviser. In Darmstadt, he presents a program that musically explores the themes of peace and reconciliation.
The centerpiece is an improvised "Reconciliation Symphony" in which Ostrowski incorporates, among other things, the song "Unfriede herrscht auf der Erde" (Unpeace Reigns on Earth). The concert is complemented by organ works by Polish and German composers.
Exhibition commemorates historic letter of reconciliation
The organ concert is part of the accompanying program of the exhibition “Reconciliation for Europe”, which can be seen in the city center church of St. Ludwig from the end of October to the beginning of November.
The exhibition focuses on the 1965 letter of reconciliation from Polish bishops, which is of particular importance for German-Polish understanding. The organizers of the exhibition include the German-Polish Institute and the Academy of the Diocese of Mainz.
The concert takes up the idea of reconciliation and combines it with German and Polish organ music.
Admission is free.
