New seating areas and play facilities planned for the old beach
The town of Weiterstadt is planning a comprehensive upgrade of the recreational area at Steinrodsee lake. The area of the old beach, in particular, is to be modernized in the coming months.
More comfort for visitors
According to the city, many of the benches at Steinrodsee no longer meet current standards. Some are damaged, making it difficult for older people or those with mobility impairments to use the recreational area.
In discussions with citizens, requests were also made for additional seating and new offerings for children.
Funding from Regional Equalization Scheme
The measures are financed through subsidies from the Regional Equalization Fund of the State of Hesse. This funding program supports municipalities that are particularly affected by aircraft noise from Frankfurt Airport.
These measures are planned
Planned activities include, among other things:
- new benches with armrests
- Special benches for seniors with footrests
- Swivel loungers on the old beach
- additional bicycle stands
- new seating options at the volleyball court
- a play sculpture with balancing elements and a hammock for children
Work will start in mid-May
The modernization project is estimated to cost around €60,000. The entire sum will be financed through subsidies.
Work on the seating areas is scheduled to begin in mid-May and be completed by the end of June. The installation of the new playground equipment will follow.
During the construction work, there may be temporary restrictions and noise in the area of the old beach.
