Triathletes from TuS Griesheim gain valuable experience at the German Championships
The German Triathlon Championships for youth and junior categories took place at the 7 Towers Triathlon in Lübeck on June 14, 2026. Two young athletes from TuS Griesheim 1899 e.V. , Magnus Kraft and Julius Nothnagel, also participated.
Magnus Kraft reaches 30th place
Magnus Kraft had already qualified for the state squad last year and had a successful start to the DTU Cup season. He finished 14th at the GISA Duathlon in Halle and 20th at the Heidesee Triathlon in Forst.
At the German Championships in Lübeck, a dense crowd at the water start made the competition difficult. Kraft narrowly missed the first cycling group and had to ride in the chase group on the challenging bike course. Further confusion arose from an incorrect course layout, resulting in some athletes completing different laps.
With a strong second transition and a solid 5-kilometer run in 16:27 minutes, Magnus Kraft ultimately finished in 30th place.
“I’m going to put this race behind me and concentrate on Jena, where I can score some good points and still make it into the top 20 of the DTU Cup,” Kraft said after the race.
Julius Nothnagel fights his way to 26th place
Julius Nothnagel narrowly missed qualifying for the DTU Cup at the squad selection event. However, at the Hessian Championships in Griesheim, he secured the title in the Youth A category despite a serious crash on the cycling course, thus qualifying for the German Championships.
In Lübeck, Nothnagel initially struggled to find his rhythm during the swim and had to settle into the third cycling group. However, he worked his way up to the chase group on the bike course and crossed the finish line in 26th place .
Both athletes are now focusing on the next competition in the DTU Cup in Jena.
