BUND and the Darmstadt Adult Education Center invite you to a free lecture
The German Federation for the Environment and Nature Conservation (BUND) and the Darmstadt Adult Education Center invite you to an information evening about wasps and hornets on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. The event begins at 7 p.m. at the BUND Center for Urban Nature in Darmstadt.
Interesting facts about native species and the Asian hornet
Under the title "No fear of wasps and hornets – native species and Asian hornet, protection, measures and relocation", experts provide information about the lifestyle of the insects and how to deal with nests in residential areas.
The discussion will cover topics such as the lives of wasps and hornets, which species are perceived as a nuisance, and how to distinguish between them. Experts will also explain how to avoid conflicts in late summer and what options are available if a nest is located, for example, in a roller shutter box, on buildings, or in hedges.
Legal information and gentle solutions
The BUND experts will present advisory services and provide information on the legal framework for dealing with wasp and hornet nests. They will also explain gentle methods for securing and relocating nests.
Another focus of the presentation is the Asian hornet, which is increasingly spreading in Germany and can have an impact on native insect populations.
Exhibition with original nests
Alongside the presentation, empty wasp and hornet nests from previous years will be on display. These intricately constructed nests offer insights into the insects' way of life and their impressive building achievements.
Participation on-site or online
The event is free of charge. It will take place at the BUND Center for Urban Nature at Klappacher Straße 27 in Darmstadt. Access is via the Orangerie, first gate on the left.
Alternatively, online participation is also possible. Further information can be found on the BUND Darmstadt website.
