Klezmer, Yiddish songs and jazz: The quartet will perform at the House of Baltic Germans on November 6th
The quartet Naschuwa will perform at the House of Baltic Germans in Darmstadt on Friday, November 6, 2026, at 6 p.m. Under the title "A Night in Gan Ejdn," the group will present Jewish music ranging from Klezmer and Yiddish and Hebrew songs to influences from jazz and Balkan music. The concert will focus on the longing for peace and reconciliation and the diversity of Jewish musical culture.
For over 30 years, Naschuwa has performed a repertoire that blends traditional and modern music. The four musicians play guitar, double bass, accordion, and violin, complementing the instrumental pieces with vocals. Two members of the quartet are professional jazz musicians.
Jewish music between joy and melancholy
The current program, "A Night in Gan Ejdn," explores the longing for the Garden of Eden as a symbol of paradise, peace, and reconciliation. The music addresses the contrasts of human life: joy and sorrow, hope and suffering.
The program includes both lively and tranquil Klezmer pieces, Yiddish songs from Jewish life in Eastern and Central Europe, and music that evokes the history of the ghettos. Musical influences from the Orient and modern Israel are also incorporated. A Palestinian song and original compositions are also part of the repertoire.
Between musical pieces, the group recounts encounters in Israel and Germany. Humor plays a role, as does the exploration of Jewish history and the culture of remembrance.
With this concert, Naschuwa also wants to highlight the importance of peace, understanding and cultural diversity in times of Middle East conflict.
