Swap body and crew transport vehicle replace older emergency vehicles – handover at Firefighters' Day
The Weiterstadt fire department has put two new emergency vehicles into service. A swap body truck (WLF) and a crew transport vehicle (MTF) will now be available to the firefighters in Gräfenhausen. The two vehicles replace older emergency vehicles and are part of the Weiterstadt fire department's needs and development plan.
The vehicles were officially handed over at the "Fire Department Day" on September 20th. Mayor Niklas Gehnich presented them to City Fire Inspector Christopher Michna and the operational unit of the Weiterstadt Fire Department. Afterwards, visitors were able to view the new acquisitions.
The swap body transports various roll-off containers
The new swap body truck serves as a carrier vehicle for various roll-off containers. Depending on the operational situation, it can transport different equipment and materials. The system makes it possible to cover multiple operational tasks with a single carrier vehicle.
The city is opting for standardized equipment for its new crew transport vehicle. According to the city, the vehicle is identical to the one already in use in Schneppenhausen. This standardization is part of the logistics concept for the Weiterstadt fire departments and is intended, among other things, to reduce costs in equipment and procurement.
Planning begins years before the exchange
According to the city, fire engines can have a regular service life of up to 25 years. Their replacement is therefore planned well in advance.
Project groups determine, among other things, the intended operational scenarios, the required technical equipment, and the requirements of daily fire department operations. The vehicles are then tendered and procured according to the specific requirements of the respective fire department.
With the commissioning of the two new vehicles, vehicles that had reached their intended service life after many years of use have now been replaced.
