Analysis of garden fountains on May 19th in the marketplace
The mobile laboratory of the VSR-Gewässerschutz (Association for the Protection of Water Resources) will be stopping in Groß-Gerau again. On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, residents can have their well water samples tested in the market square.
Date and procedure
The event will take place from 3 pm to 5 pm. Water experts Matthias Ahlbrecht and Frank Hage will be on site to collect samples and analyze them directly in the mobile laboratory.
Why the examination is useful
Especially during dry summer months, well water is often used in the garden. However, this water can be contaminated with substances such as nitrates, iron, or bacteria.
The study aims to help reduce the use of tap water while simultaneously identifying potential health risks.
Results directly on site
For a fee of twelve euros, basic parameters such as nitrate, acidity, and salinity levels will be determined. Participants will receive their results at the information booth on the same day.
Further analyses are available for an additional fee. These will reveal whether the water is suitable for watering vegetables or filling paddling pools, for example. A detailed report will then be sent by mail.
Instructions for sampling
The association recommends the following for the water sample:
- Using a 0.5-liter plastic bottle
- Rinse the bottle with well water beforehand
- Then fill completely without touching the inner surfaces
Information and advice
At the information booth, evaluations from 25 years of well water analyses in the region will also be presented. These show, among other things, that nitrate pollution remains an issue and that bacterial contamination can also increase after heavy rainfall.
The association also offers telephone consultations.
