Over 60 stalls, stage program and open consultation hour for children and young people with Mayor Akdeniz
On Sunday, September 21, 2025 , the science city of Darmstadt will celebrate World Children's Day with a large children's rights festival in the market square and Friedensplatz (Peace Square ). More than 60 initiatives, associations, and institutions will offer games, creative activities, and opportunities to participate for children and their families.
“Children’s rights are fundamental building blocks of our democracy. We want to empower children and make their voices heard. Because children are not only our future, they also help shape today’s democracy,” emphasizes Mayor Barbara Akdeniz , who is the patron of the festival. She will welcome all guests at 12:15 pm on the children’s rights stage.
Adventure course, fundraising campaign and open discussion with the mayor
The adventure course starts at 12 noon. Children can collect stamps and thus experience the variety of activities. For every stamped passport, the BDKJ Darmstadt and its member associations will donate two euros to the "Jugendplenum Darmstadt" , which represents the interests of 12- to 17-year-olds in the city.
A highlight is the open consultation hour for children and young people under the motto "And what do you want?". From 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., children and young people have the opportunity to discuss their concerns directly with Mayor Akdeniz at the stand of the Youth Education Center and the Youth Council.
Stage program and diverse offerings
The festival will be framed by a colorful stage program featuring dance, acrobatics, music, and sports performances by children. This year, it will be hosted by the youth cultural work team *huette, who will also present musical performances.
The organizers are the children's and youth services department of the Darmstadt Youth Welfare Office , the BDKJ Darmstadt and the Christian Scouts of the Adventist Youth (CPA Marienhöhe) .
