Over 60 stands, stage program and open children and youth consultation hours with Mayor Akdeniz
On Sunday, September 21, 2025 , the science city of Darmstadt will celebrate World Children's Day with a large Children's Rights Festival on the market square and Friedensplatz . More than 60 initiatives, clubs, and institutions will offer play, creative, and hands-on activities for children and their families.
"Children's rights are fundamental building blocks of our democracy. We want to empower children and make their voices heard. Because children are not only our future, they also help shape today's democracy," emphasized Mayor Barbara Akdeniz , who is the festival's patron. She will welcome all guests on the Children's Rights Stage at 12:15 p.m.
Adventure course, fundraising campaign and open discussion with the mayor
The adventure trail starts at 12 noon. Children can collect stamps and experience the variety of activities on offer. For each stamped pass, the BDKJ Darmstadt and its member associations will donate two euros to the "Jugendplenum Darmstadt" , which represents the interests of 12- to 17-year-olds in the city.
A highlight is the open children's and youth consultation hour under the motto "And what do you want?" From 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., children and young people will have the opportunity to discuss their concerns directly with Mayor Akdeniz at the Youth Education Center and Youth Council booth.
Stage program and diverse offerings
The festival will feature a colorful stage program featuring dance, acrobatics, music, and children's sports performances. This year, it will be hosted by the youth cultural team *huette, which will also present musical contributions.
The organizers are the Children and Youth Promotion Department in the Darmstadt Youth Welfare Office , the BDKJ Darmstadt and the Christian Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of the Advent Youth (CPA Marienhöhe) .
