Rosel Grassmann and Anna Orkolainen give the forest a voice
Rosel Grassmann – photographer and wilderness body painter from Darmstadt – presents her performance “BodyArt Butoh” on Saturday, September 5th , as part of the 13th International Forest Art Trail . Together with Butoh dancer Anna Orkolainen , she explores the relationship between humans and the forest through her art. The performances begin at 4 pm and 6 pm in the Forest Art Trail village.
The forest as an independent entity
The performance was created as part of the 2026 Forest Art Trail, themed "Democratic Forest." The central idea is to view the forest not only as a resource for humans, but as an independent entity with its own rights. The artists aim to make this shift in perspective visible and symbolically give the forest a voice.
Before the performance, Rosel Grassmann and Anna Orkolainen explore the forest together to consciously perceive the place and incorporate its atmosphere into body painting and Butoh dance. During the performance, the dancer becomes the "Soul of Trees" —an ambassador of the forest.
