Free sports program starts on September 3rd in Darmstadt
the BoxKlub Martinsviertel, will launch on Thursday, September 3rd. This joint project of the ROPE network and SV Darmstadt 98 aims to provide access to sports, especially for young people who are not yet, or only minimally, active in a sports club.
The boxing club will open at 5 p.m. at the Martinsviertel Sports Club, located at Pankratiusstraße 35. Professional boxer Leonie Müller will be a guest speaker. Around 5:30 p.m., the coaching team will introduce themselves. Visitors can then participate in a training demonstration, experiencing the structure of a boxing workout and even trying it out themselves.
Entry possible without club membership
The boxing club is part of the "Sport, Exercise, Nutrition" project, which the ROPE network is implementing on behalf of the city of Darmstadt. This project combines open-access children's and youth work programs with sport and exercise.
Children and teenagers can initially use the boxing program without obligation and without club membership. If this develops a further interest in competitive or performance-oriented sports, transitions into organized club sports will be facilitated.
“It is particularly important to me that this also reaches children and young people who have not yet had access to organized sports,” explains Mayor and Head of Social Services Barbara Akdeniz. Sport can promote community, self-confidence and social participation.
Concept already tested in Kranichstein and Eberstadt
According to the city, the collaboration between ROPE and SV Darmstadt 98 arose through a contact made by Roy Reinelt-Peter from the club's board regarding the network's work in the former Baas Hall. This led to the idea of offering the low-threshold boxing program, already successfully implemented in Kranichstein and Eberstadt, in the Martinsviertel district as well.
ROPE CEO Sven Rasch sees sport as an opportunity to build contacts with young people and develop longer-term offers from them.
Training at the new Martinsviertel boxing club will be conducted by Bryan Dawys, Perea Rodriguez, and Nicole Motschmann.
