Open access program at the community psychiatric center to combat loneliness
Caritas Darmstadt invites people with mental health conditions to its Saturday meetings at the Darmstadt Community Psychiatric Center, located at Wilhelminenplatz 7. This open meeting takes place on the second and fourth Saturday of each month from 2 pm to 5 pm and is open to people from Darmstadt, Arheilgen, Eberstadt, Griesheim, Weiterstadt , and the surrounding area. Registration is not required.
Many people experience loneliness particularly intensely on weekends. While others spend time with family or friends, many lack social contact. The Saturday meeting therefore aims to create a place where encounters, conversations, and shared experiences are the focus.
Caritas Darmstadt creates space for encounters
Over coffee and cake, people play games, chat, or simply spend time together. Whether it's Rummikub, Yahtzee, a puzzle, or a conversation – everyone can spend the afternoon in a way that suits them best. The focus is not on the illness, but on being together in a relaxed and respectful atmosphere.
“Many people experience loneliness particularly intensely on weekends. The Saturday meeting offers the opportunity to get out of their own four walls, experience community and make new contacts,” says Janina Helm, head of the Darmstadt Community Psychiatric Center.
For over 30 years, the program has been supported by dedicated volunteers. They ensure that both new and long-time visitors feel equally welcome. Even people who have never had contact with Caritas before are welcome to attend the Saturday gathering without obligation.
