Why climate adaptation is important
The term climate adaptation describes measures that are necessary to maintain a high quality of life despite the consequences of climate change. These include, for example:
- Shading of public spacesto reduce heat stress.
- Storing rainwaterto better withstand periods of drought.
Griesheim, in particular, is location in the Upper Rhine Graben especially affected by heat. The sandy soil is poor at retaining rainwater – another reason why local adaptation strategies are urgently needed.
