From August 22nd to September 11th, participants can collect kilometers for their city
Griesheim will participate in the STADTRADELN (City Cycling) campaign again in 2026. From Saturday, August 22nd, to Friday, September 11th, residents and people who work, belong to a club or attend school in Griesheim can cycle as many routes as possible and collect their kilometers for the city.
Members of the city council and the municipal assembly can also participate in the Climate Alliance campaign. Registration is possible via the STADTRADELN website.
STADTRADELN aims to motivate people to switch to cycling
The aim of the campaign is to encourage more people to use bicycles more often in their daily lives and thus contribute to climate protection. Municipalities have participated in STADTRADELN since 2008, and the campaign now takes place internationally.
“Just do it! Join me in the STADTRADELN campaign for three weeks and try to do without your car as often as possible – for a better climate,” says Griesheim’s mayor Geza Krebs-Wetzl.
According to the statement, approximately one-fifth of climate-damaging carbon dioxide emissions in Germany originate from transportation. Around a quarter of these transportation-related CO2 emissions are attributable to urban traffic.
Teams collect kilometers for Griesheim
Participants can create their own team or join an existing one. The kilometers cycled will be collected and recorded during the campaign period.
Several municipalities in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district will also follow the district's proposed schedule in 2026 and participate during the same period. This will allow the results of the participating municipalities to be compared.
The kilometers cycled can also be recorded via the STADTRADELN app. According to the organizers, the recorded trips are anonymized and scientifically analyzed by a spin-off company from the Technical University of Dresden. The data is made available to municipalities for traffic planning via the BIKE MONITOR portal.
