Lilies without luck – promotion chances definitively gone
SV Darmstadt 98 suffered Karlsruher SC a 1-2 (0-0) defeat
In the first half, the team from southern Hesse was the more active side and created significantly more chances. Early on, there was a controversial incident when Isac Lidberg was brought down in the penalty area, but the referee waved play on. Darmstadt continued to create several good opportunities throughout the second half, but failed to convert them into goals.
Efficiency decides the game
After the break, KSC came out stronger and made better use of their chances. Wanitzek put the hosts ahead with a direct free kick (58'). Darmstadt responded in the 70th minute: after a long throw-in, Vukotic flicked the ball on before Lidberg headed in the equalizer to make it 1-1.
In the final stages, Darmstadt threw everything forward once more, but were not rewarded for their efforts. Instead, SV 98 ultimately suffered a narrow defeat.
With this defeat, it's clear: Darmstadt's promotion dreams are finally over this season.
