New exhibition areas opened in the Karl Ströher wing
The Hessian State Museum Darmstadt invites you to the "Come in!" event on Sunday, April 26, 2026. The occasion is the re-presentation of the Karl Ströher grand piano, which will be unveiled to visitors for the first time.
Insights into the new exhibition
From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., the museum offers a diverse program of guided tours and events. The focus is on the newly designed exhibition areas, which aim to open up new perspectives on the collection.
A special focus is placed on the connection between art and music. In cooperation with the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts, the work "Cello Counterpoint" by composer Steve Reich will be performed. The musical performance for eight cellos will be presented several times a day.
Program with guided tours and music
The daily program includes, among other things:
11:30 a.m.: Guided tour “1024 Colors – We Discover Modern Art” for children and families
1:00 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 4:00 p.m.: Music performance “Cello Counterpoint”
1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.: Guided tours of post-1945 art with a behind-the-scenes look
4:30 p.m.: Discussion on conservation aspects of the rehanging
Participation and admission
All program events are free of charge. Only the regular museum entrance fee of €8 (€5 for concessions) applies. Tickets for the music performance are available free of charge one hour before the start.
