City recognizes outstanding voluntary commitment of young people
The science city of Darmstadt is once again seeking dedicated young people and young adults for the 2026 Youth Award. Individuals or groups who make outstanding voluntary contributions to society can be nominated until August 22nd.
With this award, the city council recognizes voluntary commitment in various areas. These include, among others, social, charitable and church institutions, open youth work, youth groups and associations, the volunteer fire department, as well as commitment in schools, sports, science, politics or nature conservation.
Examples of projects considered include those with special social significance, creative or innovative ideas, exceptional personal commitment to other children and young people, leadership roles in youth groups, or particularly diverse and time-intensive engagement.
“Even in Darmstadt, young people are demonstrating through their dedication and commitment, despite all the crises and hardships in the world, that it is possible to make a difference and help shape society. They are role models for others and encourage them to get involved as well. With this award, we show that commitment is noticeable, impactful, and worthy of recognition,” emphasizes Mayor Barbara Akdeniz.
The city expressly welcomes suggestions that reflect the diversity of Darmstadt's civic society. The official presentation of the youth award will take place on October 30, 2026, in the Orangerie.
Proposals can be submitted to the Youth Welfare Office's Department for Children and Youth Services until August 22, 2026. Proposal forms are available for download on the City of Darmstadt's website.
