Network partners exchange information on human rights and the fight against right-wing extremism
Last week, the district-wide networking meeting for democracy and human rights – against right-wing extremism and racism – took place at the Groß-Gerau district administration office. This annual event brings together representatives from alliances, initiatives, associations, organizations, and other social groups to cultivate contacts and develop joint strategies.
Exchange and networking are the focus
The network is supported by an internal expert group within the Groß-Gerau district administration. This group regularly pools expertise, analyzes societal developments, and develops initiatives for network partners, cooperation partners, and political decision-makers.
District Administrator Thomas Will opened the meeting on June 17th and emphasized the importance of civil society engagement.
“Networking for democracy and human rights can be a source of strength and give confidence in the future,” Will emphasized.
Strengthening democracy and human rights
Nilüfer Aldmeri from the Groß-Gerau district's office for combating right-wing extremism and racism introduced the evening's topic. Participants then discussed the future of networking and possible courses of action to strengthen democracy and human rights in working groups.
“The network against right-wing extremism and racism, with its district-wide and regional partners, is a strong network that can look to the future with confidence. We have valuable resources and will pool and use our strengths to fight for and defend democracy and human rights for all,” Aldmeri explained.
More supporters needed
During the event, it became clear that the network already possesses a great deal of commitment and expertise. At the same time, the participants see further potential in attracting additional supporters for their work.
The meeting was accompanied and moderated by Christa Kaletsch, Manuel Glittenberg and Stefan Rech from the project “Redesigning Coexistence” of the Hesse Advisory Network.
Remembering the victims of misanthropy
District Administrator Thomas Will also reminded attendees of the action weeks against anti-Muslim racism, which will take place from June 17 to July 1. These weeks commemorate Marwa El-Sherbini, who was murdered in front of the Dresden Regional Court on July 1, 2009, for anti-Muslim reasons.
During the event, victims of anti-Semitism, anti-Muslim racism, and other forms of inhumane violence were remembered.
“We are firmly opposed to competition among so-called victim groups. Solidarity applies to all people affected by misanthropy,” said Nilüfer Aldmeri.
