Anniversary for the running club and chairman Jochem Fornoff
For the Eberstadt running club, May 29, 2026, was a very special day: The club celebrated its 50th anniversary. At the same time, long-time chairman Jochem Fornoff looked back on an extraordinary milestone. Since the running club's founding exactly 50 years ago, he has continuously led the organization.
Numerous members, former participants and friends of the running club came together on the anniversary day to celebrate the two special occasions.
From Darmstadt's second running group to an established club
In his celebratory address, Jochem Fornoff recalled the beginnings of the club. On May 29, 1976, the Eberstadt running club was founded as the second running club in Darmstadt.
From its modest beginnings, the club developed into a well-established force in amateur sports over the following years. The club regularly participated in nationwide initiatives such as the "Trimm-Trab ins Grüne" (a fitness trail) and the acquisition of running badges.
The club was founded as an independent sports club in 1980. In the following years, the running club organized seven successful fun runs.
Nordic Walking and travel through Europe
In 2004, Nordic walking was added to the range of sports offered. Among the highlights of the club's history are the 30 running group trips that took place between 1985 and 2015.
The trips took the participants through numerous European countries and beyond to Egypt and Morocco.
Volunteering as the basis for success
In his speech, Fornoff particularly emphasized the importance of voluntary commitment. All of the club's activities over the decades had only been possible because numerous members had volunteered their time and effort for the organization and further development of the club.
He expressed his special thanks to the members of the current organizing team, some of whom have been involved for decades.
Congratulations from the club community
Karin Meichler-Dörr conveyed the congratulations of the Eberstadt Association of Clubs. The Eberstadt running club has been a member of the association for many years.
Following the official part, numerous participants embarked on a joint sporting activity, before the anniversary was celebrated with a social gathering.
