Mayor Gehnich visits workshops in the new construction yard and fire station building
The three full-time equipment officers of the Weiterstadt fire department ensure daily that emergency responders have access to functioning and safe equipment in case of an emergency. During a visit to the workshops in the municipal depot and fire station, Mayor Niklas Gehnich learned about their diverse tasks and the importance of their work.
Even though the "construction yard and fire brigade" construction project is not yet fully completed and adjustments are still required in some places, the equipment officers are already working in the new workshops.
Important work behind the scenes
“Our firefighters have readily available equipment at all times. Our equipment officers bear a great responsibility,” said Mayor Niklas Gehnich. During his visit, he experienced a high level of expertise and dedication. “It is reassuring to know that the safety of our emergency personnel is in competent hands.”
While the volunteer firefighters help people and avert dangers during operations, the equipment officers work in the background to ensure the technical operational readiness.
Maintenance, care and material procurement
Their tasks include, among other things, the procurement of materials, the maintenance and testing of respiratory protection equipment, hose maintenance including leak detection, and the cleaning and decontamination of operational clothing.
Their work ensures that emergency responders always have fully functional and ready-to-use equipment. This lays the foundation for the Weiterstadt fire department to provide rapid and safe assistance in an emergency.
