A 22-year-old defender is transferring from TSG Hoffenheim II to the Böllenfalltor stadium and will wear the number 49 jersey
SV Darmstadt 98 have further strengthened their defense by signing Yannik Lührs. The 22-year-old central defender joins the Lilies from TSG Hoffenheim II and will wear the number 49 jersey.
Sporting director Paul Fernie sees great development potential in the new signing: "We have been observing Yannik for some time and are convinced by the overall package and development potential he brings. He was an absolute leader in Hoffenheim last season and has shown that he is ready for this step. With him, we gain another exciting defensive option."
Lührs is also looking forward to his new role: "I'm very happy to be wearing the lily on my chest in the future. Darmstadt stands for a style of football that suits my playing style, and I sensed in our discussions that the management has a clear plan for me. I'm looking forward to meeting my teammates today and starting pre-season training together right away."
The Hannover native was trained in the youth academy of Hannover 96 from the U16 level onwards. The 1.95-meter-tall defender made ten appearances in the second division for the Lower Saxony club before transferring to Borussia Dortmund in 2024. There, he played 33 matches for the reserve team in the third division and also made three Bundesliga appearances for the first team.
Last season, Lührs joined TSG Hoffenheim II. There, he was one of the team's key players, making 33 appearances and occasionally wearing the captain's armband. He also gained experience with the German youth national teams, making two appearances each for the U19 and U20 squads.
With this signing, SV Darmstadt 98 continues its personnel restructuring for the new second division season and gains a young central defender with experience in professional football and further development potential.
