Left-back joins SV Darmstadt 98 on a free transfer
SV Darmstadt 98 have signed their next new player. Florian Kleinhansl joins the club on a free transfer after his contract with 1. FC Kaiserslautern expired on June 30th. The 25-year-old left-back will wear the number 3 jersey for Darmstadt.
Sporting director Paul Fernie sees Kleinhansl as an important reinforcement for the defense: "With the signing of Florian, we gain additional personnel security at left-back, and we are delighted that we have found such a good solution in him. Flo is a player who has already proven his qualities in the 2. Bundesliga and, at the same time, is an excellent fit for SV 98 in terms of character. It's great to welcome him to the Lilies family."
Kleinhansl is also looking forward to his new role: “After the initial contact, I immediately had a good feeling and didn't have to think about it for long. From afar, I've always perceived Darmstadt as a family-oriented yet ambitious club that stands for attractive football. I'm really looking forward to this new chapter.”
Born in Nürtingen, Kleinhansl was developed at FV Nürtingen, SSV Reutlingen, Stuttgarter Kickers, and VfB Stuttgart. He made 51 appearances for VfB Stuttgart's reserve team before transferring to VfL Osnabrück in 2021. There, the left-footed player amassed 114 competitive appearances, including 33 in the 2. Bundesliga. Most recently, Kleinhansl spent two years under contract with 1. FC Kaiserslautern, making 36 competitive appearances for the Palatinate club.
With Florian Kleinhansl, the Lilies gain an experienced second division player and strengthen the left side of the defense for the upcoming season.
