Final event for the transport development plan on June 24th
The second phase of public participation in Darmstadt's integrated transport development plan "ZukunftMobil" has been completed.
The focus was on concrete measures for future mobility in Darmstadt. Citizens were able to contribute their assessments both at a public forum on March 18th and during an online participation process from March 4th to 31st, 2026.
Cycling and public transport are particularly important
According to the city, measures for cycling, public transport, and safe streets and intersections were considered particularly important.
Safe pedestrian walkways, clear parking regulations and consistent enforcement of existing traffic rules were also given high priority.
Head of Transport Paul Georg Wandrey explains: “The feedback from public participation is a key component for the further planning process.”
Online participation with more than 560 participants
A total of 562 people took advantage of the opportunity to participate online. Various measures could be rated using a star rating system.
Around 31 percent of participants cited cycling as the most important area for action regarding future mobility. Seventeen percent each advocated for the expansion of public transport, including shared mobility options, and for pedestrian traffic.
The goal is greater peace and mobility
According to the city, the participation showed a clear vote in favor of a more balanced use of public space, improved quality of stay, and better communication of planned changes.
“ZukunftMobil, as a future plan for mobility peace, stands for the goal of fairly balancing the different mobility requirements in Darmstadt and creating a safe, sustainable and reliable coexistence of all road users,” said Wandrey.
Public closing event in June
The results of the public participation process are now being incorporated into the finalization of the transport development plan.
The public closing event will take place on Wednesday, June 24th, starting at 6 pm in the Justus Liebig House.
