Paleobiologist Christine Hertler discusses early dietary patterns
The Hessian State Museum in Darmstadt invites you to a lecture event in Darmstadt. On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, the topic will be the diet of early humans.
A glimpse into the early history of humankind
Under the title "A Feast Among Vultures - When Humans Began to Eat Meat", paleobiologist Christine Hertler sheds light on the development of human nutrition.
The focus is on how meat consumption developed around two and a half million years ago and what effects this change had on behavior and the body. The challenges faced by early humans in obtaining food are also addressed.

Scientific investigation
The lecture also shows how researchers today reconstruct what people in early times were interested in. Methods are presented that allow for the understanding of diets and living conditions.
Christine Hertler researches the spread of early humans and uses simulation methods to investigate how they developed across different regions.

Date and participation
The event starts at 6 pm, doors open at 5:30 pm. Admission is free.
