Guido Funk confirmed as chairman – appeal for more cooperation
The newly elected city council of Riedstadt convened for its inaugural meeting on Thursday, April 23, 2026. The meeting took place in the Christoph-Bär-Halle and marks the start of the new legislative period.
Mayor calls for respectful cooperation
Mayor Marcus Kretschmann opened the meeting and praised the commitment of the volunteer local politicians. At the same time, he appealed for a fact-based political culture characterized by respect and mutual listening.
Even the oldest member of parliament, Heiko Büßer, emphasized the shared responsibility of all factions for the well-being of the city and called for putting the election campaign behind them.
Guido Funk re-elected as chairman of the city council
In a secret ballot, Guido Funk (CDU) was re-elected as chairman of the city council with 19 votes. His opponent, Melanie Stahlecker-Zach (SPD), received 17 votes.
Fatima El Yazidi (SPD), Karlheinz Hebermehl (BfR) and Angelika Postina (Greens) were elected as deputy chairpersons. In his speech, Funk emphasized the importance of a respectful culture of debate and also pointed to the comparatively low voter turnout of 57 percent.
Magistrates newly appointed
The members of the city council were also elected. Richard Kraft (CDU) is the new First City Councillor, succeeding Ottmar Eberling. Other members were chosen from the CDU, SPD, BfR, Greens, AfD, and FW.
Committees and bodies established
The city councilors unanimously decided to establish three committees:
- Social, Cultural and Sports Committee
- Committee for Environment, Construction, Transport and Digitalisation
- Main, Finance and Economic Committee
In addition, representatives were elected for various association assemblies, advisory boards and commissions.
