Architecture, photography and sculpture meet the history of the Darmstadt Orangery on September 21st
On Monday, September 21, 2026, at 7 p.m., artstore Darmstadt will host a "New Orangery" evening to complement the current exhibition "All's Well That Ends Well." The focus will be on the new greenhouse on the Orangery grounds and its design connection to Joseph Maria Olbrich. Admission is free.
The sculptor Susanne Auslender , the architect Ramona Buxbaum , and the photographer René Antonoff will be participating that evening . Buxbaum and Antonoff will be discussing the facade design of the new greenhouse and depot of the city's horticultural department.
Olbrich's color gardens as a point of reference
The listed orangery is one of Darmstadt's historic parks. Joseph Maria Olbrich has a special connection to the design of the new building. The architect and artist, important to Darmstadt's Art Nouveau movement, presented color gardens in red, blue, and yellow in the orangery during the 1905 garden exhibition.
The facade of the new greenhouse and depot echoes this color scheme. According to the organizers, further measures are planned for the park's design, in addition to the new building project.
The event will take place during the exhibition "Everything's fine" at the artstore Darmstadt.
