Volcanic landscape, hiking pleasure and animal encounters in Schotten
A four-day hiking trip took 34 women from the Groß-Gerau branch of the Odenwald Club to the Vogelsberg region – with stops around Schotten, the Vulkaneum (volcano museum), the Hoherodskopf mountain, and the Nidda reservoir. The trip offered a successful blend of experiencing nature, physical activity, and camaraderie.

The event kicked off with a visit to the Vulkaneum Schotten, where interactive exhibits provided information about the region's geological past . Following a champagne reception at the Hotel Sonnenberg, Karola Kunz presented the participants with a symbolic "monkey fist" – the first highlight of the social program.

Afterwards, the group split again: some hiked towards the Gackerstein, while others stayed on the main path. The destination was the Taufstein Hut, before the group climbed the 765-meter-high Hoherodskopf with its radio tower and treetop walkway . In the evening, humorous contributions from Gisela Dietz, Edelgart Rietz, and Rosel Wolk ensured a lively atmosphere.
Closing event at the Schotten bird park
On the day of departure, the group visited the Schotten Bird Park , where they could admire llamas, meerkats, ostriches, and snakes, among other animals. The tropical house with its free-flying golden pheasants also caused quite a stir. After a group lunch at the hotel and a final sunbath, the bus took the hiking group back to Groß-Gerau.
