Young people are organizing their own festival at Dornberg Castle with music, creativity and participation
Music, creativity, and above all, the ideas of young people were the focus of the first "Sound of Youth" festival at Dornberg Castle. Teenagers and young adults between the ages of 14 and 26 celebrated the premiere of the new festival in the Groß-Gerau district together at the beginning of August. What made it special was that young people were not just guests, but actively involved in planning and organizing the event.
The festival aimed to combine youth culture and participation. To achieve this, a youth planning group worked closely with the district youth services and developed its own festival concept. Young bands and musicians from the district performed on stage. The musical program was complemented by creative and participatory activities.
Young people organize their own festival
According to the district, this resulted in a festival where young people could contribute their ideas, try new things, and engage in dialogue with one another. The young people were intentionally not only to be treated as spectators, but also to take on responsibility and actively participate in shaping the event.
The planning group also gave a positive assessment after the premiere. For those involved, it was a special experience to witness how the initial ideas gradually developed into their own festival.
The concept also offered a platform for up-and-coming musicians from the Groß-Gerau district. It gave them the opportunity to present their own music to an audience and gain stage experience.
The reactions from visitors were also positive. "What a great day! Hats off to the organizers," the district quoted one comment about the festival.

The festival could be continued in the future
Following its successful premiere, there is hope that "Sound of Youth" can become a regular event in the cultural scene of the Groß-Gerau district. The first festival demonstrated the potential of self-organized youth culture and the direct participation of young people.
The project was funded through the "Youth Experience" program of the state of Hesse.
