Two concerts at the State Theatre and in St. Paul's Church with works by Haydn, Beethoven and Lefèvre
The Darmstadt Chamber Symphony Orchestra celebrates its 40th anniversary with two autumn concerts in Darmstadt. On November 7th and 8th, 2026, the ensemble, conducted by Mikael Despres, will present works by Jean-Xavier Lefèvre, Joseph Haydn, and Ludwig van Beethoven. Cellist Angela Elsässer will be the soloist. Admission to both concerts is free.
Autumn concerts with a musical connection between Lefèvre and Beethoven
A special feature of the program is the juxtaposition of Jean-Xavier Lefèvre's "Hymne à l'agriculture" and Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 in F major, Op. 68, the "Pastoral." Both works share a strikingly similar musical theme, allowing the audience to immediately grasp this connection between the compositions.
Beethoven's "Pastoral" Symphony is among the most famous musical depictions of nature and rural life. The program is complemented by Joseph Haydn's Cello Concerto No. 1 in C major, with Angela Elsässer performing the solo part.
With its two autumn concerts, the Darmstadt Chamber Symphony Orchestra looks back on four decades of making music together.
