Apprenticeships, dual studies and recognition year start at the city administration
Forty-two young people are beginning their professional careers with the City of Darmstadt this year. Mayor and Head of Human Resources Hanno Benz welcomed the new trainees, candidates, and employees in their recognition year on Tuesday, September 1st, in the Glückert House on the Mathildenhöhe.
The new employees come from diverse educational backgrounds and professional fields. These include traditional administrative roles as well as social, educational, technical, and horticultural positions.
From administration to garden and landscape design
Seven trainees are undertaking a dual study program for a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration and are being trained for the higher civil service. Six others are beginning their training for the intermediate civil service. In addition, there are six administrative assistants.
Ten prospective early childhood educators are starting their practice-integrated, paid training (PivA), four are completing their recognition year. Two trainees are beginning a dual study program in Social Work and Management, and another person is starting a recognition year in special needs education.
In addition, three trainees are starting in horticulture and landscaping, two as specialists for swimming pool operations, and one person in the field of media and information services.
In the autumn, more vocational trainees are expected to join in various areas of the social and educational services.
Currently 90 trainees at the city
According to its own figures, the city of Darmstadt currently employs 90 trainees in more than ten training programs. The city administration has nearly 3,000 employees in more than 40 different professions.
In his welcoming address, Mayor Hanno Benz emphasized the importance of training for the development of the city administration's personnel. "Our new trainees will contribute to the further development and modernization of the city administration, thus ensuring the provision of essential public services," said Benz.
After the official welcome, the new employees had the opportunity to get to know each other through various joint activities. These included a tour of the Darmstadt climbing forest, an outdoor escape game, and a cooking class.
Applications for 2027 are still being accepted until September 15th
Those interested can apply for apprenticeships starting next year until September 15, 2026. The city provides information online about the apprenticeships and dual study programs offered, as well as the application process.
