The association Kooperation Frauen eV is launching its event by combining the film "Thelma" with information on fraud and scamcalls.
The new film series "Women Who Make a Difference" launches on Tuesday, September 1st, at the Rex Cinema in Darmstadt. The opening film, presented by Kooperation Frauen eV, is "Thelma." Before the screening, Chief Inspector Tobias Scholle will speak about fraud and scam calls. The series will then continue every two months.
The film series focuses on women who initiate change – both in their personal lives and in the public sphere. Kooperation Frauen eV is organizing the series in cooperation with the Rex Cinema in Darmstadt.
"Thelma" tells the story of the struggle for independence
93-year-old Thelma (June Squibb) lives alone after the death of her husband and manages her daily life independently. She occasionally receives support from her grandson Danny (Fred Hechinger), who does her shopping and helps with computer problems.
When Thelma falls victim to a grandparent scam, she loses $10,000 and her entire life savings. At the same time, she fears her family no longer trusts her to live independently. Inspired by her role model, Tom Cruise, she sets out to get her money back.
Information on fraud and shock calls
What the film humorously addresses is a real danger in everyday life. Before the film begins, Chief Inspector Tobias Scholle provides information about fraud and scam calls. He explains typical methods used by fraudsters and how to recognize scam calls. He also answers questions about everyday safety.
After the film screening, there will be an opportunity for discussion.
