Asphalt work will cause traffic disruptions on three weekends in March
Motorists on the A3 motorway heading towards Würzburg should expect closures and lane reductions in March . As the Autobahn GmbH (Federal Motorway Company) has announced, the asphalt surface layer in the area of the Mönchhof interchange will be renewed over three consecutive weekends . This is due to significant damage caused by cracks, ruts, and numerous patched areas.
First full closure from March 7th to 10th, 2025
🚧 Period of closure:
- Friday, March 7, 10 p.m. to Monday, March 10, 5 a.m
- A3 fully closed from the Raunheim junction towards Würzburg
- The Raunheim exit and the parallel lane to the A67 towards Darmstadt remain open
🔄 Detours:
- Traffic on the A3 towards Würzburg will be diverted at the Raunheim exit onto the A67 towards Darmstadt and must turn around at the Rüsselsheim-Ost exit.
- Traffic coming from Raunheim travels via the A3 towards Cologne, the Wiesbaden interchange, the A66 towards Frankfurt and the Frankfurt Northwest interchange onto the A5 towards Darmstadt/Basel until the Frankfurt interchange (A3).
- Alternatively, from the Kriftel interchange , it is possible to take the B40 to the Kelsterbach exit onto the A3 .
- From the Wiesbaden interchange, traffic is diverted via a large-scale route via the A66 towards Frankfurt, the Frankfurt Northwest interchange and the A5 towards Darmstadt/Basel to the Frankfurt interchange (A3) .
Restrictions on the following weekends
📅 March 14th to 17th & March 21st to 24th:
- A3 towards Würzburg, only one lane is open before the Raunheim exit
- AS Raunheim and the parallel carriageway to the A67 towards Darmstadt remain open
- Large-scale diversion recommendation via the A66 towards Frankfurt
- On the last weekend of construction, traffic heading towards Würzburg will be diverted at the Raunheim exit via the parallel lane back onto the A3 towards Würzburg .
Construction measures for traffic optimization
As Autobahn GmbH explains, the measure was deliberately scheduled for less busy times on weekends to minimize disruption to commuters . Nevertheless, motorists should allow for longer travel times and listen to current traffic reports on the radio .
The Autobahn GmbH asks all travelers for their understanding regarding the necessary work and recommends avoiding the area as much.
