Autumn concert on September 13th with soloists and the Darmstadt Chamber Philharmonic
The Bach Choir Darmstadt will perform one of the most important oratorios of the Romantic era on Sunday, September 13th. Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's "Paulus", accompanied by the Darmstadt Chamber Philharmonic and renowned soloists.
A musical narrative of an extraordinary turning point in life
The oratorio, first performed in 1836, tells the story of the Apostle Paul, who transforms from a persecutor of Christians into a prominent preacher of the Christian faith. Inspired by the works of Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel, Mendelssohn created "Paulus," a work that remains one of the pinnacles of sacred choral music.
The focus is on impressive choral scenes depicting, among other things, the crowd and the Christian community. These are complemented by expressive arias and solo parts, as well as a colorful orchestral accompaniment.
Concert on Marienhöhe
Under the direction of Angela Gehann-Dernbach, the Bach Choir Darmstadt will perform together with the Darmstadt Chamber Philharmonic. The solo parts will be sung by Ursula Ott (soprano), Christian Rathgeber (tenor), and Peter Schüler (bass).
The concert begins on September 13th at 6 pm in the Marienhöhe Community Center, Auf der Marienhöhe 57 in Darmstadt. Doors open at 5 pm, seating is unreserved.
Tickets are available in advance at the Darmstadt Shop in the town hall foyer, online, and at the box office on the evening of the performance. Children under 15 years of age have free admission. Discounts are available for school pupils, students, and people with disabilities and their accompanying persons.
