Library research is currently only possible via direct request to the archive
Anyone wishing to research the holdings of the Darmstadt City Archives library will have to temporarily do without the online catalog. As the City of Darmstadt has announced, online research is currently unavailable.
The city history library of the city archive comprises more than 18,000 volumes of books, brochures, magazines and newspapers and serves as an important source for research, education and city history.
The temporary restriction is due to the switch of the library management system in the hebis network to the new open-source solution FOLIO. Since the catalog previously operated jointly with the Hessian State Archives in Darmstadt had reached its technical and organizational limits, the city archives' data had to be removed from the shared system and backed up before the old platform was shut down.
According to the city, they are currently working intensively on their own solution for online research. The goal is to make the library catalog available online again as quickly as possible. In the long term, publications that are currently only available in a card catalog should also be searchable digitally.

The library of the Hessian State Archives in Darmstadt can already be searched via the new online portal of the Hessian State Archives, independently of this.
