Reading promotion project now also in the city library in the city center
The Darmstadt City Library is participating for the first time with its main branch in the Hesse-wide reading promotion project "Buchdurst" (Book Thirst). This means that children and young people in Darmstadt's city center can now also take part in the popular summer reading campaign. An accompanying summer book exhibition has also already opened at the city library.
Read three books and win prizes
Students in grades five through nine can participate. Those who borrow three books from the city library during the summer holidays, read them, and then review them will participate in the closing ceremony and have the chance to win attractive prizes.
“Reading is the key to education and equal opportunities. ‘Book Thirst’ succeeds in playfully inspiring children and young people to love books and sustainably strengthening their reading skills. I am delighted that the Darmstadt City Library is now offering the project in the city center, thus enabling even more young people to access this important support,” explains Head of Education Holger Klötzner.
Kranichstein is also participating again
In addition to the main branch of the city library, the Kranichstein branch library is also participating in the campaign again.
A summer book exhibition has already been set up at the main office. There, children and young people can find suitable reading material for the holidays as well as further information about the project.
Statewide reading promotion project
“Buchdurst” is a Hesse-wide reading promotion project of the Hessian Reading Promotion Association under the umbrella of the Hessian Literature Forum in the Mousonturm eV. The campaign is funded by the Hessian Ministry of Science and Research, Art and Culture.
The project aims to motivate children and young people to read regularly and discover new books during the summer holidays.
