The Climate Cycling Tour will take place on September 16th and will lead to examples of urban climate and climate adaptation – starting at the Modau Circle
How do different surfaces and landscapes affect temperatures in the city? This is the focus of the Climate Cycling Tour on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, in Eberstadt. The approximately two-hour bike tour, organized by the city of Darmstadt, starts at 5 p.m. at the Modauzirkel exercise park.
The tour will visit various locations in and around Eberstadt. The focus will be on the urban climate and ways to mitigate the effects of heat, drought, and heavy rainfall. The city will also present its climate adaptation plan and its 20 measures, using concrete examples.
Measure temperatures yourself
Participants can examine air and surface temperatures during the bike tour. A thermal camera will be used, among other things. This will make differences between various surfaces and landscapes directly visible and tangible.
Other topics include green roofs and walls, natural garden design, and the removal of impervious surfaces. The so-called sponge city principle is also explained. This involves capturing rainwater on-site as much as possible, storing it, and releasing it gradually.
Environmental officer Michael Kolmer also points to the importance of choosing suitable plants and watering them properly. The tour is intended to provide participants with concrete suggestions for creating a climate-adapted living environment.
Own bicycle required
The Climate Cycling Tour starts on September 16th at 5 pm at the Modauzirkel exercise park in Eberstadt and lasts approximately two hours. Participants must bring their own bicycles. Depending on the weather, the city also recommends sun protection and plenty of drinking water.
