Themed tours offer new perspectives on culture and history
As the city of Darmstadt, known for its science and research institutions, announces, numerous public city tours in May invite visitors to experience Darmstadt from new perspectives. These so-called "highlight tours" offer special insights into the city's history, architecture, and everyday culture.
Focus on the large Glückert House and Rosenhöhe Park
The event kicks off on May 2nd with a guided tour of the Glückert House. The focus will be on the extensive restoration of the historic building, which underwent comprehensive renovation between 2020 and 2023.
A tour through Rosenhöhe Park will take place on May 3rd and 24th. In addition to insights into garden design, the mausoleums of the Grand Ducal family will also be a focus.
City tours with a special character
A special experience awaits you on the guided tours with Darmstadt personality Aurora DeMeehl. Several dates are scheduled for May – from city center tours to walks across the Mathildenhöhe in Darmstadt.
Also on offer: a guided tour of the University and State Library in Darmstadt's Residenzschloss on May 8th. This tour will present both the historical background and the modern uses of the library.
Culinary and creative discovery tours
On May 9th, the Darmstadt weekly market invites visitors to a culinary tour. Under the title "Market Chatter," regional specialties will be tasted and insights into the market's activities will be provided.
Another unique perspective is offered by the tour around the Waldspirale, a residential building designed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser. Here, the focus is on the idea of organic architecture.
Further highlights at a glance
The program is complemented by numerous other offerings, including:
