Nine research projects shed light on the history of Eberstadt and Darmstadt
The results of the third series of research projects by local historians from Eberstadt and Darmstadt are now available in a joint final report. The free brochure presents nine research projects on local history and is available in both print and digital formats.
Last Sunday, the participants of the third season were honored for their projects in the Ernst-Ludwig-Saal, and the results of their work were presented. The season ran for 18 months, from February 2025 to July 2026.
Nine topics on 52 pages
The 52-page document contains summaries of the work of the nine scholarship recipients. The thematic spectrum ranges from the history of individual Darmstadt districts and buildings to industrial and school history, and includes the examination of the past of the munitions depot's prisoner-of-war camp in Eberstadt-Süd.
The following research projects will be presented:
- Dr. Bernhard Bremberger: “The prisoner camp of the munitions depot in Eberstadt-Süd”
- Karl Heinz Fröhner: “The ‘Darmstadt Line’ of the Scholl sculptor dynasty”
- Helmut Hahn: “Development, destruction and reconstruction of the municipal hospitals in Darmstadt”
- James Harrison: “3D Reconstruction of the Historical Interior of the Trinity Church Eberstadt”
- Harald Hintermeyer: “150 Years of the Volunteer Fire Department in Eberstadt”
- Marie-Christine Kegel: “The Darmstadt Masterpieces”
- Theodor Ludwig: “The Development of Schools in Kranichstein”
- Reinhold Reinmöller: “The history of the Darmstadt engine factory (MODAG) – from Kirschenallee to the world”
- Niels Springer: “Reconstruction of the origin of the Eberstadt forest villa district”
Bremberger had already received a scholarship in the first and second seasons, while Hahn had already participated in the first season.
Brochure available free of charge
The printed final report is available free of charge at the Schlapp bookstore, Heidelberger Landstraße 190 in Darmstadt-Eberstadt, as well as at the Dotter concerts. It is also available for download online.
Final report by the local historians
In the coming weeks, the scholarship recipients will present their research topics in more detail at individual events. The Dotter Foundation will publish the dates on its website.
Project with multiple partners
The "Eberstadt and Darmstadt District Historians" project is a joint initiative of the Hans Erich and Marie Elfriede Dotter Foundation, the Darmstadt Citizens' Foundation, the Kurt and Lilo Werner RC Darmstadt Foundation, and the City of Darmstadt. The concept was developed by the Polytechnic Society Foundation of Frankfurt am Main.
