The third season is dedicated to Darmstadt's city and district history
The third cohort of Darmstadt's local historians is entering its final phase. In September and October, the participants will present the results of their research projects. The program ranges from the Darmstadt Scholl sculptor dynasty and the history of the engine factory to the development of the Eberstadt forest villa district.
The results will be presented in various formats. Lectures, exhibitions, book presentations, and guided tours are planned. Participation in the events is free.
The Scholl sculptor dynasty – the “Darmstadt line”
The event kicks off on Sunday, September 13th, at 2 pm with Karl Heinz Fröhner. During a guided tour, he will trace the footsteps of the important Scholl dynasty of sculptors in Darmstadt.
The meeting point is the Moller House (lodges).
History of the Darmstadt engine factory
Reinhold Reinmöller will be discussing Darmstadt's industrial history on Thursday, September 17th, at 7 pm in the Museum of Industrial Culture "Darmstadt Factory".
In his lecture, he traces the history of the Darmstadt engine factory and the company's development from Kirschenallee to the world stage. Registration is required via email to industriekultur-darmstadt@web.de
Municipal hospitals: Development and reconstruction
The history of the Darmstadt Municipal Hospitals will be the focus of a lecture on Thursday, September 24th, at 7 p.m. Helmut Hahn will discuss their development, destruction, and reconstruction, and will also present a book on the subject.
The event will take place in the lecture hall of the Darmstadt Clinic . A supplementary photo exhibition will then open in Building 6.
150 Years of the Eberstadt Volunteer Fire Department
To mark the 150th anniversary of the Eberstadt Volunteer Fire Department, Harald Hintermeyer will present his research findings at the fire station in Darmstadt-Eberstadt on Thursday, October 1st .
The program includes an exhibition and a book launch. There will be a reading from the book in the evening. The exhibition will then be open to the public on weekends for four weeks.
Historic interior of the Trinity Church in 3D
What did the interior of the Trinity Church in Eberstadt look like in the past? James Harrison dedicated himself to this question. His 3D reconstruction shows the historical interior of the church between 1851 and 1961.
The exhibition will be presented on Friday, October 2nd, at 11:00 a.m. in the Evangelical Trinity Church in Darmstadt-Eberstadt. Further opening hours are Saturday, October 3rd, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and Sunday, October 4th, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Afterwards, the exhibition can be viewed every Sunday for 45 minutes before and after the church service.
Guided tours through the Eberstadt forest villa district
The announced presentations will conclude with two guided tours led by Niels Springer on the origin and development of the Eberstadt forest villa district.
The first tour begins on Sunday, October 11th, at 2 pm in front of the Hotel Waldfriede. A second tour follows on Sunday, October 18th, also at 2 pm. The meeting point for both tours is the Marienhöhe tram stop.
All events organized by the local historians are free of charge.
