Volunteer Day in Braunshardt Castle Park brings together clubs, helpers and the city
With a volunteer appreciation day in Braunshardt Castle Park, the city of Weiterstadt honored the voluntary commitment of its citizens. People from clubs, aid organizations, fire departments, advisory boards, and numerous other areas of community life were invited.
Instead of an extensive program, the focus was on meeting and exchanging ideas. With music from the band "The Capones" and food and drinks, the volunteers were able to talk to each other and with representatives from administration and politics.
Representing a broad spectrum of voluntary work
Guests included representatives from Weiterstadt's clubs and their departments, members of the volunteer agency and the city's advisory boards, as well as parent representatives. Volunteers from politics, the local court, and the arbitration board were also invited.
Also present were volunteer firefighters and volunteer helpers from the German Red Cross, the Order of Malta, and the Order of St. John. In addition, playground and environmental stewards and other volunteers were also in attendance.
Mayor Niklas Gehnich pointed to the time and organizational effort that many volunteers undertake. "Some board and management positions are now almost like a second job," said Gehnich. Clubs and associations have to fill board positions, recruit volunteers, organize events, and address financing, security, and insurance issues, among other things.
The mayor also particularly emphasized the work of the volunteer fire brigades and aid organizations, whose members are available for deployments in addition to their jobs and families.
Exchange instead of an extensive program
The city had deliberately opted for a volunteer day with a limited program. "Today you are invited to talk to each other, make new contacts, and above all, to be guests yourselves," Gehnich summarized the idea behind the event.
According to the city, the event was organized with the support of the Darmstadt-Dieburg Savings Bank and Kocamann. Gehnich also thanked the city administration staff involved for their preparations.
City requests clubs to provide current contact details
Invitations to the Volunteer Day were sent by email to the contact persons of the clubs and organizations registered with the city. According to the city, there were subsequently a few reports that invitations had not arrived.
Affected clubs and organizations can therefore contact the City of Weiterstadt's club support office and register or update their contact details there. This will ensure that future information and invitations reach the relevant contact persons.
