Dr. Christian Storm remains chairman of the 20-member committee
The Nature Conservation Advisory Board of the City of Darmstadt has been constituted for a new five-year term. This volunteer body advises the city on matters of nature and landscape conservation and contributes its professional expertise to municipal planning and decision-making.
At the inaugural meeting, Dr. Christian Storm was re-elected as chairman. His deputy is Peter Werner. The advisory board comprises a total of 20 members representing various fields of expertise in nature and environmental protection.
Professional advice for the city administration
The Nature Conservation Advisory Board provides particular support to the Lower Nature Conservation Authority and the Environmental Office of the City of Darmstadt.
His duties include assisting in the preparation of plans and statements that may have an impact on nature and the landscape.
This includes, among other things, the preservation of biodiversity, the protection of the forest, as well as issues of climate protection and climate adaptation.
The advisory board's expert assessments are regularly incorporated into municipal decision-making processes. The aim is to consider ecological concerns early on and to create a sound basis for urban planning.
20 members from different fields of expertise
The members of the newly constituted nature conservation advisory board bring knowledge from various scientific and ecological disciplines.
These include biology, ecology, forestry, limnology – the science of inland waters – and vegetation science.
Some of the members represent recognized nature conservation associations. Others were appointed to the committee as local experts.
This composition is intended to ensure that different professional perspectives are incorporated into the consultations.
Voluntary engagement in nature conservation
Environmental officer Michael Kolmer emphasizes the importance of the committee for the development of Darmstadt.
"The advisory board is indispensable when it comes to further advancing Darmstadt on its path to becoming a city with high biodiversity and quality of life," explains Kolmer.
He was pleased that once again committed and professionally skilled people were volunteering for nature conservation in the city.
The Nature Conservation Advisory Board's work is intended to help reconcile the protection of natural habitats with the needs of urban development.
The new term of office lasts five years
The new term of office for the Nature Conservation Advisory Board runs for five years as scheduled.
During this time, the committee will continue to advise the city administration on nature conservation issues and prepare statements on relevant projects.
