Athletes from SGA brave rain and wind over 42.195 kilometers
Three female and two male triathletes from SGA successfully participated in the 43rd Mainova Frankfurt Marathon on Sunday, October 25, 2026. Despite challenging weather conditions with heavy rain and wind, all five completed the 42.195-kilometer course through Frankfurt. Michael Ostermann was particularly successful, finishing in 3:09:54. He and Conny Thiele both placed among the top 100 in their age group.
Nadine Silvia Krisch, Ulrike Bickert, Conny Thiele, Michael Ostermann, and Stefan Wendel represented the SGA triathlon division at the starting line. The traditional marathon took the participants through Frankfurt and culminated in crossing the finish line on the red carpet inside the Festhalle.
Rain and wind make the marathon more difficult
The external conditions initially presented the runners with additional challenges. Heavy rain and wind made running on the streets of Frankfurt particularly strenuous.
The cobblestone sections in particular were slippery in places due to the wet conditions. Participants also had to cope with difficult conditions on the other roads.
As the marathon progressed, the weather improved. The sky cleared and the sun even made an appearance at times.
Michael Ostermann fastest SGA starter
Michael Ostermann achieved the best time among the five SGA athletes. He completed the marathon distance in 3:09:54 hours, thus securing a place among the top 100 participants in his M50 age group.
Nadine Silvia Krisch also delivered a strong performance. The competitor in the W35 age group crossed the finish line after 3:38:27 hours.
Conny Thiele crossed the finish line after 3 hours, 57 minutes, and 3 seconds. The W50-aged athlete took on a special role during the marathon: she paced her daughter. Despite this support, she still managed to finish among the top 100 in her age group.
Stefan Wendel, in the M50 age group, completed the course in 4:10:56 hours. Ulrike Bickert, competing in the W50 age group, finished the marathon in 4:45:41 hours.
All five SGA starters reach the finish line
The Frankfurt Marathon was a success for the SGA triathlon department. All five club members who started completed the challenging course and reached the finish line in Frankfurt's Festhalle.
There, the runners were greeted by the traditional finish line, which ran along a red carpet approximately 100 meters long.
Especially after the difficult weather conditions at the beginning of the race, the finish in the festival hall provided a special conclusion to the marathon.
