International guests will visit the science city from May 28th to 31st
The science city of Darmstadt is once again hosting its European Weekend from May 28th to 31st. Representatives from the partner cities of Brescia, Chesterfield, Graz, Gyönk, Liepāja, Nahariya, Płock, Saanen, Trondheim and Uzhhorod are expected to attend.
The focus is not only on maintaining town twinning relationships, but also on discussions about current municipal issues and international exchange.
Expert discussions on digital and resilient cities
The European Weekend will be officially opened on Friday, May 29, by Mayor Hanno Benz.
The program begins with a visit to the LOEWE Center emergenCITY on Mornewegstrasse. Among other topics, resilient digital infrastructures will be discussed. Prof. Dr. Michèle Knodt from the Technical University of Darmstadt will give a presentation and subsequently moderate a discussion with the delegations.
In the afternoon, the guests will visit the grounds of the European Space Operations Centre. The day will conclude with a European evening at the Christoph-Georg-Lichtenberg-Haus.
Border crossing with international specialties
On Saturday, May 30th, the delegations will participate in the traditional border walk of the science city of Darmstadt. Along the route, the partner cities will offer regional specialties and refreshments.
The border walk begins at the Brentano complex at the corner of Bartningstraße/Gruberstraße and ends at the Mathildenhöhe.
To conclude the European weekend, a joint dinner with the presentation of the friendship plaque will take place in the Jagdhofkeller l'Oxalis.
The mayor emphasizes the importance of the exchange
“With the European Weekend, we cultivate professional exchange with our partner cities and experience international friendships through a joint border walk with the city society,” explains Mayor Benz.
Especially when facing current municipal challenges, cross-national exchange is particularly valuable.
