New specialized vehicles are intended to make waste disposal easier
The city of Weiterstadt has expanded its municipal depot's fleet of vehicles by adding two new special vehicles for waste disposal.
The leased vehicles are intended to make the daily work of employees easier and at the same time contribute to environmental and health protection.
Hydraulic technology replaces heavy manual labor
Until now, employees had to manually lift the waste containers overhead and empty them into collection containers.
The new vehicles now empty fully automatically via a hydraulic rear discharge. The loading volume is up to two cubic meters of waste.
According to the city, this should reduce physical strain and make work processes more efficient.
Mayor emphasizes better working conditions
At the official handover ceremony, Mayor Niklas Gehnich emphasized the importance of the investment.
“Unfortunately, the amount of waste in our society is constantly increasing. This makes it all the more important that we noticeably improve the working conditions for our colleagues at the municipal depot and relieve them of some of their daily burdens,” explains Gehnich.
The new vehicles are also smaller and more space-saving in road traffic.
City relies on bi-fuel technology
Environmental considerations also played a role in the purchase. While a purely electric drive was examined, it proved impractical due to economic factors and the high daily mileage.
The new vehicles instead feature a bi-fuel system and can run on both liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and gasoline. Combined with modern exhaust filter technology, this is expected to significantly reduce CO₂ and other pollutant emissions.
