Club legend leaves SV 98 after the season
A defining era is coming to an end at SV Darmstadt 98: Fabian Holland will leave the club after the current season. The 35-year-old's contract will not be renewed, as the club announced following a joint meeting.
Focus on the end of the season
The club and players have agreed to focus entirely on the final stretch of the season. Any farewell celebrations will only be planned in detail after the season has concluded.
Twelve years in the Lilies jersey
Holland initially joined Darmstadt on loan from Hertha BSC in 2014 and has been under permanent contract with SV 98 since 2015. During this time, the left-footed player has made 316 competitive appearances, making him one of the players with the most appearances in the club's history.
Sporting highlights include two promotions to the Bundesliga and securing survival in the league in 2016. From January 2019 to July 2025, Holland also led the team onto the field as captain.
Recognition by the association
Sporting director Paul Fernie described Holland as a club legend, highlighting in particular his commitment and character. Club officials also emphasized the player's importance to the club's development in recent years.
Emotional farewell announced
Holland himself looks back on his time in Darmstadt with gratitude. The decision to leave the club was not easy. At the same time, he wants to fully concentrate on sporting success in the remaining games.
After the season ends, the long-time leading player will receive a dignified farewell.
Fabian Holland will score against Werder Bremen on October 17, 2021.
