Photography, artificial intelligence and changing identities in the space for art
The exhibition “MY FRAMED NEW WORLD” by Florian Albrecht-Schoeck will be on display from October 31 to December 5 at the Darmstadt Secession's art gallery, Luisenstraße 16. Dr. Katrin Weleda will introduce the works at the opening reception on Friday, October 30, at 7 p.m. The artist will be present.
Albrecht-Schoeck has stopped taking new photographs. In light of current violence and social developments, he no longer wants to simply continue documenting the world photographically. Instead, he works with his image archive, which has grown over years, and uses artificial intelligence to develop new images from it.
To achieve this, he adapts freely available models to his artistic questions and trains them with his own materials. He himself also becomes a subject: in his images, he appears at different ages, genders, and in historical roles. The works question identity and the relationship between photographic images and reality. Familiar visual worlds increasingly appear alien; humor and absurdity collide with uncanny moments.
Opening hours: Thursday and Friday from 4 pm to 7 pm, Saturday from 12 pm to 3 pm.
