Talks about a possible four-party coalition announced in Darmstadt
The Darmstadt Green Party has ended exploratory talks for a possible three-party coalition with the CDU and SPD. This was announced by the Darmstadt branch of the Green Party (BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN) in a statement.
No confidence in the three-party coalition
According to the Green Party, the talks failed to establish sufficient trust for cooperation. In addition to substantive and personnel issues, the behavior of the CDU and SPD both in the lead-up to and during the city council meeting on April 16th also played a role.
According to the Greens, a coalition without shared understanding and trust would not be viable and could harm the city.
Focus now on a broader majority
Given the political situation in Darmstadt, the Greens now see the possibility of forming a broader coalition.
According to reports, talks about a possible four-party coalition are to begin next week. Volt Germany and the Free Democratic Party are mentioned as potential partners.
Complex political situation
The Greens emphasize that their goal remains to form a coalition capable of taking action and with broad social support. However, the political constellation after the local elections makes this challenging.
