Music, dialect and Danube Swabian specialties in the packed parish center
The second annual village festival in the St. Stephan settlement in Griesheim drew numerous guests to the parish center last Sunday. Old acquaintances reunited, exchanged news, and celebrated together. Rita Mück and Jürgen Rückert organized the event with a total of 33 participants. Mayor Geza Krebs-Wetzl and former mayor Norbert Leber were also in attendance.
For lunch, there were locally prepared specialties such as sarmen, bean soup with pork belly, and cabbage noodles. Later, a buffet with homemade cakes followed, to which, among others, the parish's women's group had contributed.
“Original Riedblech,” a small ensemble of Transylvanian musicians, provided the musical accompaniment for the celebration. Jürgen Rückert and Sabina “Bini” Gleich entertained with a Danube Swabian dialect dialogue, supported by Rita Mück and Helmut Schultz. As the “Danube Siblings,” the four then invited everyone to sing along. Their closing song, “S’ist Feierabend” (It’s time to relax), was performed a cappella in the now-silent hall.
An exhibition of traditional costumes, photographs, and everyday objects commemorated the settlement's history. The local festival originated from the celebrations of the 75th anniversary in 2023. Another large festival is planned for the 80th anniversary in 2028.
