The information booth in Darmstadt offers advice, hands-on activities and information
How can people protect themselves from increasing summer heat? An interactive information booth on Ludwigsplatz in Darmstadt on Thursday, June 11, 2026, will provide answers to this question.
From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the City of Darmstadt, the Protestant University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt, and Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences will be providing information about the health effects of heat and effective protective measures. The event is part of the nationwide Heat Awareness Day.
Information and activities for all age groups
Visitors can expect a diverse program with information and hands-on activities. Planned attractions include thermal imaging camera measurements, a heat-themed prize wheel, water games for children, and shaded lounge chairs for relaxation.
The offers are designed to clearly illustrate the effects of high temperatures on the human body and how health risks can be reduced.
Heat hits particularly vulnerable people hard
Mayor Barbara Akdeniz and Climate Protection Officer Michael Kolmer emphasize the societal importance of the issue. They note that older people, children, and individuals with health limitations or difficult social circumstances are particularly affected by heat stress.
Therefore, heat preparedness is not only a matter of climate protection, but also an important component of local public services and social justice.
Darmstadt relies on heat action plan
The booth will feature representatives from, among others, the Healthy City Coordination Office, the Early Help Network Coordination Office, and the Office for Climate Protection and Climate Adaptation.
As early as summer 2024, the science city of Darmstadt adopted a comprehensive heat action plan. This plan includes numerous measures to better prepare the population for increasingly frequent heat waves and to minimize health risks.
The information booth on Ludwigsplatz is intended to help impart knowledge and raise awareness of the challenges of climate change.
