Handover of office at the arbitration board after eleven years of voluntary service
For two terms and a total of eleven years, Sigrid Seidel and her deputy Wolfgang Weber served as volunteer mediators in Seeheim-Jugenheim. They have now handed over the office to Jörg Hoffmann and Jens Eggert im Kampe. Both were elected by the municipal council last year and recently sworn in by the Darmstadt District Court.
The arbitration board mediates in disputes and helps to resolve conflicts out of court.
Successful mediation work
Saying goodbye is not easy for Sigrid Seidel. The 76-year-old has served in the position with great dedication for many years, together with Wolfgang Weber. Mayor Birgit Kannegießer used the official handover ceremony to thank the two long-serving arbitrators for their service.
The results of their work are impressive: In approximately 90 percent of the cases handled, an agreement was reached through mediation. This not only resolved conflicts but also relieved the burden on the courts.
New arbitrators take over
"Mediation instead of litigation" is now the task of Jörg Hoffmann and his deputy Jens Eggert in Kampe. Both bring professional experience in mediation, which should benefit them in their new voluntary work.
Among the most frequent cases are neighborhood disputes, for example, concerning overhanging hedges and trees, property lines, noise, or odor nuisances. As neutral mediators, the arbitrators support the parties involved in finding a mutually agreeable solution – with the goal of resolving a conflict without creating a winner and a loser. Using the arbitration service is not free, but with an average procedural fee of 50 euros, it is significantly cheaper than consulting a lawyer.
